Balance

For every easily riled up student I have, there’s another who can ignore the distractions. For every student who refuses to look up a definition, there’s another who looks it up without being asked. For every student too lazy to stand up to get the marker they dropped, there’s another who will happily hand out markers to the class. For every student who doesn’t listen to any of the directions, there’s another who reads the instructions without prompting. Nothing particularly wonderful happened today. But on balance nothing particularly awful happened either. There were a lot of students who were good at being students. I hope that I can remember to appreciate them in the moment. Especially the moments when someone is struggling at being a student.
