Ruth Harlow & Continued Fractions

Our Gay-Straight Alliance brought in a guest speaker for our Upper School today. Ruth Harlow, who was the lead council for Lawrence v. Texas (a crucial gay rights case from 2003). I loved that she got a receptive audience in our kids. Various kids joined in a pizza-for-lunch discussion (which I was invited to crash) and they were asking great questions they had prepared, showing they had been deeply thinking about the constitutional and political issues surrounding this case. (Many were from our Constitutional Law class.)

In Precalculus, I went on a small tangent on Continued Fractions. I don’t know why. I just wanted to. Anyway, I never gave them a proper name (I kept saying “infinite fractions”) because I wanted to focus on the idea, not the terminology. After class a kid wanted to know the proper name so he could look them up. That means I win, right?
