Emails

One of my calc girls (who never misses class) was absent today.  Our online attendance tracker is pretty cool because the front office can input a reason why the kid is gone.  Beside this girl’s name, it said, “Ill–mom called; in hospital.”

I panicked a little and emailed her mom to see what was going on.  I’ve had this girl in my class for two years now and I also had big sister in a college class when I taught concurrent courses, so I kind of adore this family.

I got this precious response from her mom that just made my day:

Thank you. Your sweet email made her smile! You are such a wonderful teacher of math and of life. Our daughters have been so blessed by having you!

There aren’t many better things as a teacher than the knowledge that someone trusts you with their own kid.

PS

The girl is ok–thank goodness!
