I know I’ve written about this before, but I’m just so impressed with how my Advanced Geometry class is doing to understand the equations of circles. They seem to have quite a good grasp of things.

I’m also so happy to be working with another teacher for that class who has great ideas and knows how to translate those ideas into some great ways to think about things. Sometimes we have this synergy. Like he made up some problems to get kids to think about translations, rotations, and reflections on the coordinate plane. And I saw how we could — in essence — show how two different sets of operations can yield the same thing (e.g. rotation by 180 degrees about the origin is the same as reflection over the x-axis and reflection over the y-axis). It was a productive and fun conversation. Let’s hope it translates into some nice problems and insights in class.
