There Are No Annoying Kids

We have a weekly advisory program and this week kids were in charge of running the period. The girl who took charge in our group did a great job, so great several students asked her if she wanted to be a teacher. She said no, but after some thought said, “If I did, I would teach Latin.” Kids asked, “Why Latin?” “Because there aren’t the annoying kids in Latin. Only smart people speak Latin.” She paused, then amended her statement, “Well no, there are no annoying kids…” And I jumped in, “Right, no annoying kids, but there are annoying behaviors, and Latin probably sees fewer of those.” Not only does she have a great presence in front of the class, she also can separate kids from their behaviors. She’d be an awesome addition to the profession if she decided to teach.
