Today my senior math class worked perfectly for the entire hour on a study guide. No complaints or whining or giving up. This is a first this year. I was literally scared to move or talk in case I broke the spell.
It was magical.
In geometry we started working with patty paper to find lines of reflectional symmetry and rotational symmetry and the students seemed pretty into it. It was a nice moment to see their concentration and just hear the shuffling of patty paper.
I went blind into my first card sort of the year with freshman (h/t to @druinok for the link) and it went better than expected. I had to give a lot of hints but students used the minimum, maximum, median, and how the distribution was skewed to figure out their answers. A lot of conversation and participation considering it’s their first time ever doing a sort.
