Excited Students

In third period, we were solving exponential equations. Students have done this in two previous classes, so they’re pretty familiar with what’s going on. One student, who is usually diligent but not enthusiastic, saw what we were doing and said, “Oh, I love these! I was just helping my little brother with his homework on these last night!”

Baseball season is starting, and it’s my favorite sport. I have a lot of baseball players. Today, one of them came up to me as I was writing on the board. “Have you seen The Rookie, Mrs. L?”

“Is that the one with the old pitcher who gets to play?”

“Oh, yeah, that’s a great movie!”

“Ok, so there’s a quote from it that really describes how I feel today. He goes up and says,’You know what we get to do today, Brooks? We get to play baseball.’ And that’s exactly what I feel! I’m so excited!” He was grinning from ear to ear.

I love his enthusiasm, and I love that he shared it with me.
