Name Tents

I read Sara’s post about Name Tents and thought it was such a great idea. For someone else. My students have gone to school together since Kindergarten and I’ve had them for years in a row so I don’t need to know their names and I know a lot about them.

But I did it anyway. This is only the second day but I really enjoyed responding to them last night. I had a lot of practical questions from freshman to seniors sharing their worries and everything in between. I’m looking forward to reading then the rest of the week.

So if you’re thinking about this idea, do it! Even in my small classes I have students who’ve failed or moved in that the rest of the class may not be familiar with. A name tent doesn’t hurt. Every day I’m having them add things they like to the outside as well.

Never underestimate the power of knowing your students better.
