Brett and I had the privilege of attending a banquet tonight to honor students who have overcome tremendous obstacles but have chosen joy despite it all.

One of my students was one of the five kids being presented the award. I got to read her nomination in front of her and her mom and the rest of the group.

It was a small crowd, but I was overwhelmed by each of the kids as well as the adults who had so clearly poured into them.

The awards were sponsored by the Optimist Club. At the end, their governor gave closing remarks and said something to extent of how much good there is in teenagers and how he wished that would be portrayed more.

I loved that statement. I love that these people took the time to celebrate the good in our youth. I wish everyone could hear their stories and be moved like I was moved.

These kids are amazing. They are mountain-movers. And I am so glad we stopped and celebrated them tonight. They deserve the world.
