Last semester I found out I received a grant for an iPad, Apple TV, and Apple Pencil so that I can walk around the room and teach from anywhere (what I write on the iPad shows up on my board). Everything finally came in at the end of last week so I got it all set up and used it today in precalc. One of the first things I did in fourth hour was ask if someone wanted to do the warmup for the class. A few hands shot up. Instead of calling on someone to go to the board, I just handed off the iPad and pencil. The student started writing on the tablet. And then–literal screams of excitement! Because what she was writing from her desk was being displayed in real time in front of everyone at the front of the class!
In love.
It’s only Day 1 with this technology so I have a lot to explore and learn but it was honestly such a game changer to be able to face my kids the entire lesson and read their body language and facial expressions. I didn’t have to turn my back once to work a problem; I never blocked anyone’s view.
It’ll be something I use consistently, I’m sure.
I’m so thankful to work for a district that has a foundation that so generously grants us our asks. What a gift.
All my life…
