A student told me today that she plans to participate in our Future Educators program next year. “I want to do what you do. I want to do this.”
If you’ve spent any time with me, you know how passionate I am about making education—especially secondary education—a viable option for our AP kids. So many of them have been told their whole lives that they can be one of three things: a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. But certainly not a teacher. Oh no. They are far better than that, far more capable. Far more intelligent to waste their talents on a lowly job like teaching.
That narrative needs to change.
One by one.
The first step is getting AP students to even consider a career in secondary education.
This young lady is doing just that.
That alone is cause for celebration.
