I was reading and watching story submissions today after school and one video in particular was so well done, almost like having a real conversation.
In the video, the student said how much this class has improved his note-taking skills and that he has applied it to other AP classes.
While I desperately want my kids to see the applications of calculus all around them, I fully understand most will not use calculus in their grown up jobs. What they will use, however, is how to think like a mathematician: how to organize their thoughts, how to pay attention to detail, how to communicate and justify their answers, how to explain the meaning of their results within the context of a problem, and…how to take notes.
These are skills we all need, no matter our vocation. When they tell me they’re learning some of these skills, my teacher heart soars.
