Back

And we’re back!

I hadn’t seen my kids in person since the week after Thanksgiving. I struggle with the balance of keeping our staff and kids and kids’ families safe and also knowing how much my students struggle with distance learning. I’m grateful I don’t have to make the call and have just decided to make the most of the time we do have together.

During our last round of distance learning, my principal got these amazing new desks for me. My kids kept asking me why I was the lucky recipient of these space-age chairs, and I have no clue. But I’m not complaining.

A lot of my virtual calc kids from last semester chose to come back in-person and are in my other calc sections now. So those classes are…not small. I got permission to put my new space-age desks in groups so as to minimize the number of quarantines.

Omg.

I felt like a teacher again. Maybe for the first time all year.

My kids talked math together all hour as they learned about integrals for the first time; they treated the “new” students like they had been a part of that section all year (some recognized each other from the discussion boards…be still my heart); and my room sounded like…my room.

We even got to use my big new whiteboards from a grant:

It feels good to be in my natural habitat again.

Now. For the love, let’s speed up these vaccines.
