Something Rotten

Our all-school musicals are something else. Committed to excellence in all we do, our theatre program is no exception. While I struggle to keep up with all the sports jargon, music and dance are second nature to me. In fact, I taught ballet as a teenager and young adult before I ever taught math.

So I look forward to our annual musical every year. I think I’ve gone each time except the year I had a two-week old. And even then I thought I could muster the strength. So cute of me.

This year they reduced the number shows and limited seating to only 10% capacity so it was really only for family. I was bummed. This was a year I actually had a lot of kids as main characters. But I was grateful for the precautions nonetheless. I’d watch the recording, I told myself.

And then I got an email. “My family has an extra ticket! Do you want it?!”

Oh let me think about that. YES.

As always, our actors and actresses dazzled us all. Getting to witness them both as calculus problem solvers and also as performers who can serenade a room until it bursts into applause makes me feel like a have a pretty special seat to their high school career. No matter what path they choose, it’s clear they’ll love life—in the big moments and the small.
