Day 1 is in the books! If you know me at all, you know I’m an introvert, and Day 1 is basically just a means to an end. As one colleague said today, it’s like labor pains: after a while all we remember is the good stuff so we think, “Yeah I want to do this again!” And then we get to Day 1 and we’re like, “Why did I think this was a good idea?”
I laughed. It hit too close to home.
Regardless of the awkwardness of Day 1, it’s always worth it to get to Day 180, when you see how deeply you love your little (or big) cohort.
Some of my very best friends bought me tons of school supplies to kick off the year (and I mean tons). Within the supplies lay a Mister Rogers daily calendar. As I was getting ready for tomorrow, I flipped the calendar to this quote:

I am ready for that spark again. Joy begets joy. Compassion begets compassion. I’m ready to hold this new group—or as much as they’ll trust me with—knowing that it’s them that lift me in the end.
Here’s to Day 2 and the spark of the Divine.
