Getting Fit

My own children are 17 and 14, noticeably older than my 8 year old students. So the best thing I learned today isn’t really useful to me. During today’s listening conferences I had a dad tell me, “The methods we use for behavior redirection might be a bit different from most.”

I hesitated as such a statement made me somewhat uncertain.

He continued, “When the kids (3rd and 2nd grades) aren’t doing what they should, they do a 30 second wall sit. If that doesn’t work, they do a plank.”

I was surprised and processing, not sure if this sounded terrible or brilliant.

So he went on, “They’re either going to be good people or really fit.”

We may be doing some wall sits in our classroom. I asked that third grader to teach me how to do a proper one next week.
