I left at my contract time today.
Unless I was rushing to an appointment, I don’t think that’s ever happened.
This is absolutely the most calm I’ve ever felt this soon to the start of the school year. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the juxtaposition of all that teachers took on last year—almost anything feels like a piece of cake compared to that. A large part of it is having only one prep and having pretty much all the videos made this year as opposed to frantically making them all the time last year (seriously it felt like all. The. Time).
Is this the calm before the storm? Very possibly.
But I left at contract time today.
I taught with lots of energy, I met with kids, and I prepped for tomorrow.
And then I snuggled my kindergartner who is transitioning in his new school.
What a great year to have fewer responsibilities—right when my son is going through a big change.
That’s a gift.
