Bakers

This summer a student asked if I would sponsor a new club—a baking club.

I have told so many students no to sponsoring clubs over the years. But I love baking; this particular student is a legit baker (has her own business); and—most importantly—I felt like I’d have the bandwidth for a club for the first time since becoming a mom over five years ago.

So I said yes.

We had our first meeting today.

Please guess how many interested bakers showed up to my room after school?

Just guess.

110.

In one classroom.

110 kids who just want to learn to bake.

110 kids of different genders and races and ethnicities.

110.

Oh my heart.

How in the world will this work logistically? Oh I have zero clue.

But today…today reminded me that even in this world that is so very divided—we can unify and mobilize so quickly when we find common ground.

Bright days are ahead, friends.

The bakers are coming.
