One of my fourth hour students got recognized as Senior of the Month today (in fourth hour). It was a joy seeing him recognized, but even more so it was a joy seeing his peers genuinely excited for him.
This is one of the most important character traits we can instill in our children: that they feel what others feel—that they celebrate others’ victories and also lean into their sorrows.
And my kids have that empathy in spades.
This is how we hold a piece of each other inside us.
This is how we build connection.
And connection, the science tells us, is how we thrive.
