We got to have our holiday assembly today, another beloved tradition we had to miss out on last year.

But sometimes when we have things taken away from us, it helps us appreciate them when they return.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the arts. I’ve played the piano since I was a four; I have minor in music; I sing in my church’s choir. I danced all through high school and taught ballet in college.

So when kids sing and play instruments and dance…it pulls on my heartstrings. (The teacher sitting next to me was quick to point out to my lunch group that I got teary-eyed. No one was surprised. This is who I am. I have accepted it. Best to move on.)

But as much as the kids on stage melted my heart, it was the kids in the audience that stole the show for me.

They clapped louder and cheered longer than ever before.

They cheered for their friends.

And, I think, they cheered that we were together again.

“In the end—maybe we’re all just walking each other Home.”
